Environmental Consideration
Farnborough Central is located within 2.5km of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA), which means there are several planning requirements unique to this development. At Redrow, we are totally committed to environmental protection, and we have happily incorporated the extra provisions. Further information will be provided to residents upon completion, but we provide a brief summary here.
PROTECTING WILDLIFE
The SPA has been designated as a sanctuary for several important populations of rare and threatened heathland birds. For this reason, the planning consent contains the condition that cats and dogs will not be allowed on the development.
In order to minimise disturbance to the SPA by the increased population in the area, an alternative area of recreational open space will be created at Southwood Woodland. This is an area of woods and heathland, currently closed to the public, which is being restored and improved to provide footpaths and cyclepaths, children’s play equipment and public open spaces. Just over 2km from Farnborough Central, it is nearer than the SPA and will help protect that fragile environment. An information leaflet about all local recreational amenities and areas of open space will be provided when you move in at Farnborough Central. Please refer all queries to Rushmoor Borough Council on 01252 398398.
TRAVEL SENSE
There are a number of initiatives at Farnborough Central to encourage environmentally friendly travel. These include the provision of bicycles for all residents to use at any time! There is a network of new cycle and footpaths linking the development with the town centre and beyond, and designated, covered cycle parking areas conveniently located. To encourage bus usage, residents will be given free bus travel for a period when they move in, to familiarise themselves with the local services. And traffic controls mean that only residents, and service and emergency vehicles will have through access, preventing ‘rat runners’. Full information, including bus timetables and much more about eco-friendly travel, will be provided when you move in.
SAVING WATER
Farnborough Central will have its own rainwater collection tank. The rainwater will be used to water the lawns and shrubbery around the development.
FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW
The Farnborough International Airshow is a hugely popular event held every two years at the nearby airfield. The next one is in the Summer of 2008, and it lasts for a week in July.
Obviously this causes an increase in local congestion and noise, but the rest of the time, noise from the airfield is minimal. Many residents choose to take their holidays at this time, but please note that the lease at Farnborough Central does not permit any lettings of less than six months.
